Right now I have NO. MOTIVATION. at all.

Alas… I’ll burn a hell of a lot more calories out there than I will laying in bed.

Ugh.

Well. I ate too much last night. Instead of crying about it on my blog, I’m just going to disregard it (kind of) and recognize the cause of what’s done is done. Today, however, is a brand new day and I’m ready to rock it! Skipping my run until tomorrow seeing as my tummy is absolutely LIVID with me…but I’ll be on my own sprinting around at work from 11:30-7 today, so at least I’ll be relatively active.

To those of you who also messed up yesterday, or perhaps didn’t quite meet your goals - start fresh today. You’re starting at zero, and the only way to go is up. Good luck…not that you need it ;)

I find that when I need a super strict day, a sort of “recovery,” I do best by planning out my meals for the day. (I’ll finish this after breakfast, I need to get moving and don’t really know what I have around here for a quick and easy lunch.)

Breakfast : 8:45 a.m.

Egg whites (<70)

Cottage Cheese (80)

Turkey Sausage (110)

Oro Wheat (80)

Lunch : 1 p.m.

Snack : 4 p.m.

Beef Jerky (120)

Dinner :

I’m meeting a friend for dinner but we haven’t decided where. We’ve gotten pretty good at picking restaurants with healthy menu options, so I imagine I’ll just have ahi and/or a side salad. I’ll post back.

Nike +

So I just purchased the Nike + “kit” or whatever, and am suuuuper pumped to try it out! Does anyone else have it??

Week2Day1

I did not want to work out this morning. I rolled around in bed for a solid 30 minutes thinking, “but I only went to bed 6 hours ago,” and “I was on my feet for 6 hours at work last night…that counts right?”

Nope.

I dragged my sorry ass out of bed and headed for the scale. I had barely 1,000 calories yesterday and didn’t go down at all? Talk about a shitty way to start the day!! Alas…I figured going back to bed wouldn’t make that number drop, so instead I got in my car and headed out to my running spot for day1 of week2.It was tough(ish.) I should have brought sunglasses and I should have left my apartment right when I woke up, instead of waiting for the temperature to hit 80 and continue rising. BUT— I went a little farther, increased my running pace per mile, and definitely don’t regret getting out of bed :) I’m heading downtown to do a little shopping, and hopefully noshing on a salad later…I am CRAVING cold and crunchy!!!

What is the best...

food/shake to eat after an intense cardio workout?

W1D3

Yet another improvement! My running time this morning went from a 9:10min/mile to 8:52min/mile! Small change but it’s something. I also burned 53 more calories than last time- a total of 309. I definitely didn’t want to get out of bed today but MAN I’m glad I did!! I had a FiberOne bar this morning, beet salad and ahi tuna for lunch, and 2 veggie wraps for a snack - putting me at 713cals at 5:15p.m. I’m going to an outdoor concert with some friends in about 2 hours…there will be little drinking on my part, and I assume we will all go somewhere for dinner after the show. I know I won’t be hungry, so I’ll either have a drink or a simple app. (edamame, ahi, whatever.)

Down to 140.6 this morning.

It feels SO good to be getting back on track!!!

Week1Day2

Had my second day of C25K this morning. Went a little further (2.7mi compared to 2.63mi), a little faster (9:29 to 9:10) and it was a little harder (cloudy and 70degrees vs sunny and 79).

I think I am going to fall in love with running.

After my workout I had a great afternoon with my mom. We went downtown and walked around and did a little shopping, then had lunch on a patio overlooking the water.

FoodBlog:

Right after my workout I had a fiber one bar (140) which I didn’t want at ALL, but I know how important it is that you eat right after a workout to support muscle growth.

At lunch I had a smoked salmon salad - caesar dressing on the side which I hardly used, shredded asiago (ate some of) and croutons (completely ignored.) Est (587?)

Just now had a turkey wrap and crackers (229.)

Going to a movie with a girlfriend in an hour. Shouldn’t be hungry for anything else. I didn’t check my weight today because I completely overindulged at the 4th of July party. I felt gross and full after, and was reminded how important it is to stop eating when I’m full.

Tomorrow I work from 11:30a.m-7p.m., and I’m going to bring my own lunch (a wrap) because the girl I work with ALWAYS eats crap and I don’t want to be sucked into that.

Blame it on the a-a-a-a-alcohol.

I ate SO well yesterday. All day. And then…I went out. And then…I came home. (Well, technically I didn’t come HOME…I crashed on a friend’s couch.)

And you know what we did when we got home from the <strike>lamest</strike> most awesome rooftop party ever thrown? <strike> (Which I didn’t want to attend in the first place.)</strike> We ate stupid crap. Sure, we started out diving into a harmless bag of sliced up veggies. And then someone pulled out the calorie-laden veggie dip. And then someone pulled out the hummus. And then someone pulled out sandwiches. AND THEN SOMEONE GAVE ME A SCOTCHAROO.

A SCOTCHAROO YOU GUYS.

(For those of you who live in a cave and have never had this amazing treat, it is basically a rice krispie treat topped with peanut butter and chocolate. Omg.

Hold on I need to wipe off my keyboard I’m drooling.

So I ended up adding approximately 700 calories to my daily intake when I wasn’t even hungry. That, my friends, is just silly.

Which brings me to my latest realizations:

When I drink hard alcohol (vodkavodkavodka) I tend to eat more at dinner, snack more at parties, or chow down on a bunch of food at 3a.m.

After nights of drinking said alcohol, I am le hungover. Which causes me to be lazy, unproductive, and to eat more crap.

Basically, it inhibits my smart decision making skillz during the time that I am drinking it, and ruins my food decisions for a solid 24 hours after

SOOO.. I shall stop.

I was 143lbs this morning AND NOT PROUD OF THAT PEOPLE. I haven’t weighed that much for at least 4 years. So I am going to stop for awhile. I may not quit drinking completely, but I definitely need to stop this cycle.

Today’s plan: I just had brunch (440) and I am going to go lay out for a while. 4th of July festivities at 4 p.m…and I think I might just have a beer or two and then volunteer to drive. Then I’ll just sleep out at my parents and get up in the morning to continue my running progress.

My terrain for today :)

My terrain for today :)

Week 1 Day 1

SO. I set my alarm for 8:30 a.m. to start day 1 and it was raining.

<strike>I was absolutely thrilled because I sure didn’t feel like getting out of bed.</strike>

I was so bummed! I was ready to start my new workout plan. I woke up off and on for the next few hours to pouring rain, and finally, around 10, the skies closed up long enough for me to get going. So off I went!

<strike>I sat around for a good half hour and did the crossword from the newspaper, chatted with my parents…did everything I could think of to avoid running.</strike>

I bounded out of the house in my neon running shorts, stuck my pink earbuds in my ear and went on my merry way. And honestly? It felt GREAT. The second I got outside and heard some upbeat punk-rock(ish) song come on my iPod, I was pumped! How could you not look forward to a workout in the middle of the country? (I’ll post a pic.)

The only time I felt tired during the workout was the last running section, and I pushed through and didn’t slow down. HOORAY FOR DAY 1!!

I’m at my apartment now, just finished a turkey/veggie wrap and broccoli slaw for lunch. Totaling 255 calories. Dinner at the lake, (I’m taking the same meal because it was so delish) and probably staying in tonight, since tomorrow is the 4th and will be a full day!

My next C25K workout will be on Tuesday; tomorrow I will do a yoga workout at home.

STATS:

Distance: 2.6 miles

Walk Pace: 13:00 mile

Run Pace: 09:29 mile

Cals: 256

Wt: 141

I’m Erin, a 22-year-old college graduate, who is currently in the middle of accomplishing absolutely nothing in her life.

I’m starting this blog to track my progress with my latest venture- Couch to 5K- or C25K: a program that helps <strike>super lazy, unmotivated</strike>, non-athletes like myself become runners.

For those of you who <strike>live in a cave </strike>have yet to hear about this iPhone app, it seems pretty legit. The program has 3 workouts/week for 9 weeks. By the time week 9 rolls around, the user is supposed to be able to “run 30 minutes without a walking break.”

For example, Day 1 consists of : “Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Five-minute cooldown walk.”

Sounds easy enough right? :-/

Who cares! I can do this! :)

For as long as I can remember, I’ve lost and maintained my weight using unhealthy means. I’ve struggled with eating disorders and I’ve NEVER gotten into working out. <strike>In fact, I open and cancel gym memberships approximately every 6 months. Can you say commitment issues?</strike> So it’s time for me to make a change, and I truly feel that I am ready.

This blog is going to be dedicated to me being healthy…the healthy way.
